It's all about ministry with Rizen by Larry W. Robinson:
In a world where fleeting fads and fashion often seem to rule, and “What’s Hot” today all too quickly becomes “What’s Not” tomorrow, a few things still proudly bear the test of time. And in the ephemeral, here-today-gone-tomorrow world of popular music, no genre has endured, inspired and flourished like traditional gospel. On their self-titled, major-label debut album, RiZen—Adriann and Aundrea Lewis, Kanika Trigg, and Ashley Jones—build proudly and boldly on that foundation.
Q. How did you get started in the music ministry and how did you know you were ready for full-time music ministry?
A. We started sing in church doing an actually service, with nobody in the pew. We were just having church with ourselves. We believe it is very important to be rooted and grounded in the church. God actually just confirmed to us when we were ready. It is a set season for that…
Q. It seems like what you do in private…your private worship is displayed on stage. How important is it to have a lifestyle of worship before you get out to minister to the masses?
A. Very important because you can’t help anyone or give them any hope and inspiration if you are not spiritually prepared. That is why it is so very important for us as a group to have that down time…quiet time before we go out and minister to God’s people; because we want God to speak to us first. So that way we can go work and flow in the anointing of God.
Q. Now…”It Shall Come to Pass” is a song that I have to play every time I do a radio broadcast. If I don’t play it, people call and ask, “Will you play Rizen today?” Where did that song come from…”It Shall Come to Pass?”
A. It came from a young man from New Orleans, LA that came to our church for a youth conference and he started playing that song after service and we were there for another hour just singing and being ministered to by the words of the song. He gave us that song and God really has being use it to minister to people and God has really taken the song to another level.
Q. Every time I hear you singing the song…something special happens. For instance you were on TBN with Juanita Bynum and my God…something really broke loosed in the studio and all over the viewing audience. As a matter of fact she kept asking you to, “Sing that one more time for me.” Where do you get the energy and stamina to sing like that?
A. Well is goes back to the trials and tribulations that you been through and God has allowed victory to come over your life. And you know how you have been praying and asking God for certain things? And then suddenly when God brings it to pass it is just like an overflow and increase in your life; where you just can’t help yourself, because you are overwhelmed by the Glory of God.
Q. What artist ministers to you?
A. Oh…wow…Pastor Donnie McClurkin, Pastor Shirley Caesar..
Q. Have you shared the same stage with any of these artists?
A. YES! Yolanda Adams is a great support in our ministry. Minister Kirk Franklin. Dr. Bobby Jones. The list goes on. Tonex. Everybody in the industry has been really supportive of us as music ministers. They have given us a lot of advice as for as new artist and it has been so wonderful. You know our involvement in the word of God had been keeping us and helping us make good decisions.
Q. It seems like you are very young. I know you may not want to tell you age, but what did you do before you were on a national platform?
A. Well this is Adrian and I was a school teacher.
Q. Really?
A. Yes.
Q. Wow we have something in common. I taught school for a brief time.
A. This is Kankia and I worked in a business office.
A. This is Aundrea and I worked in a Recreation Center.
Q. When the songs are over? When the concerts are over? What do you want the people…even like today…what do you want us to leave with?
A. It is very funny that you asked that. We just read an email today about when you were in Memphis, TN and the power of God just showed up and showed out. When people leave from seeing Rizen in concert we want them to be restored, and have the joy, the peace, the happiness that can only come from God. We also want them to receive a blessing from God. Not just two weeks from now, but we want God to move in their lives the next day. Suddenly! When they receive the Word of God through our songs…we want God to move in their live immediately. And I tell you...God has done just that…time after time. Everywhere we go people are calling us telling us what God has done for them.
Q. Give us some of the testimonies of what God has done for people through your ministry.
A. A couple of weeks ago right there in Memphis, TN the Lord lead me to help this young couple who was in debt. I believe it was God’s purpose and plan for us to raise an offering for them. Not knowing what they were in need of. They really needed a car. They were struggling, needing transportation. They were riding the bus. Using the church van. And God told me that it was going to be overflow. We gave them a Rizen bag that we had. And people just started coming and giving money to them. And it wasn’t overflow yet…and people still came and started sowing seeds into this young couple lives. The guy wrote that when they got home. After everything was over and they begin to count the money….they received 1,300 dollars. And they only need 500 dollars to get the car they wanted. They got the car plus overflow.
Q. When you see stuff like that happen, how does that strengthen your faith?
A. It makes it worth it. It makes everything that we have gone through worth it. That is what our ministry is about. If we just help one person, that is what it is about. When you receive emails and phone calls saying, “Your ministry has help me so much”…that just uplifts us. Just to know that our ministry encourage them, and help to uplift their spirit.
Q. What do you say to the young lady, looking, wondering if God can use her like He is using you? What do you say to her?
A. You have to be ready for God to use you. You have to be ready to be sold out to God. If you don’t really want to be sold out…don’t get involved in this.
Q. For those that may not know exactly what sold out means…what do you mean when you say sold out?
A. Your whole, entire life…must be willing and do what it takes to please God. Your everyday living, your everyday walk, your talk….every moment, every second must be sold out to God. You must eat and sleep God.
Q. Many people see you on stage, they see the light shining and hear your name called, but they don’t realize that this is a sacrifice..
A. That is exactly what it is…a sacrifice. If you are not ready to turn away the world…you don’t need to get involved. Because you have to leave the world behind. Friends, loved ones, sometimes you have to leave them behind for God. You know he says pick up your cross and follow me daily. Not just when you get on stage. It is a daily walk.
Q. Really the stage is just the end of your daily preparation.
A. Yes..Defiantely.
Q. Ladies thank you for taking the time to talk with me today.
A. Thank you!
